Eternal Kiss of Darkness
Finally, things are calming down in my life. I had the pleasure of sitting down and reading for the first time in what seems like an eternity. I received Jeaniene Frost’s Eternal Kiss of Darkness last Monday when it was released. My busy schedule kept me away from it until last night. I thought a would sneak a peek before I went to bed, but at 3:00 AM this morning I read the last page and closed my eyes to dreams of a sexy Egyptian vampire named Mencheres.
No real spoilers ahead… If you want to know what happens, go read the book. *sly grin*
Mencheres was an intriguing character from the Night Huntress series. He was ancient, calculating, powerful, and somewhat distant. He caught my interest because I love ancient Egypt and he held an air of mystery. But I must admit, something about him wouldn’t allow me to fall for him in the Night Huntress series.
Jeaniene eliminated that problem in Eternal Kiss of Darkness. After reading this book, I fell head over heels for our Egyptian Pharaoh turned vampire. Mencheres showed his humanity. He let his logic and pre-determine fate fall by the wayside for passion and love. He possessed a depth of emotions that made me experience his past pains and future happiness with every word I read. Jeaniene completed Mecheres for me and gave me the missing piece to make me fall in love with him.
EKOD intertwined two characters that brought balance to one another. But accepting their fates took each to another level within their belief system and tore down old barriers, opening possibilities to a new future. Kira, our heroine, is a steel-minded private investigator with a strong sense of morality and an acute internal compass, driving her to a world in which she never imagined. She teaches Menecheres that there is something beyond his logic and staunch interpretations of his vision. She draws out feelings from our four thousand year old vampire, which he believed no longer existed. She provided him a reason to live.
Their love affair is filled with steamy hot desire, tender caring moments, and danger. As our couple fights the accusations of the Law Guardian, Radje, Mecheres’s oldest enemy, they are brought closer together with each attempt Radje makes to tear them apart. EKOD is a page-turner.
Jeaniene also brings back some of our favorite characters to assist in the fight to recover Mecheres’s honor (maybe life is a better word since the sentence was death for his alleged crimes). Vlad played a large role, being a close friend to Mencheres. Each time he appears in a book I like him more. Vlad has a wicked sense of humor and charm. Who can’t love Dracula? Cat and Bones made an appearance. I still love them. Cat has a alluring charm that makes everyone feel at easy, but maintains a kick-ass air about her.
I can’t wait to see who Ms. Frost decides to write about next. I would love Vlad to have his own book.
If you have a minute and are looking for a good read, check out Jeaniene Frost and Eternal Kiss of Darkness. If you haven’t had the pleasure to read the Night Huntress series it’s well worth your time to read.

Since Vlad plays a larger role in this book, I bet she is working him up for his own. Hopefully! I haven’t read EKOD but I already love Vlad!
So what do you think? Better or worse than First Drop of Crimson? Or just about the same? Did you like Mencheres better than Spade?
I actually liked it better than FDOC. Only because I loved Mencheres and Kira together. They had a really great chemistry. Kira was also a very strong female lead and I love that. Not to say Denise wasn’t strong in her own way, but Kira is just right out there with it. And I have to say Mencheres wins in the battle with Spade. Spade was hot, but who can pass up on a Pharaoh?
I was thinking the same thing about Vlad. I soooo… hope the next book is his.
I received my book today, so I’ll let ya know what I think when I finish it! (Which will probably be tomorrow because I’ll be reading it into the early hours of the morning, I’m pretty sure.)
Oooh! Happy reading!
sounds good, I’m taking your advice!
I’m going to have to agree with you on liking this book a little more. And I’m a bit surprised. In the Night Huntress books Mencheres was easy to respect because of his honor, but I never really connected him. He came off cold and old. Which I guess he was supposed to be, before Kira. I ended up loving him though. And I loved Kira. She seemed so realistic. I think she acted how many other normal people would act in her situation. She was no trembling damsel in distress.
You know what I really like about the NHW series though? The dual p.o.v.s. I like being able to read how the guys feel and think. It helps me connect. In Night Huntress we really only get Kat’s perspective. But I wouldn’t change Night Huntress for the world. Why fix whats not broken, right?
And can I just say one thing? The ceiling scene under the roller coaster. Enough said.
Oh and btw, good news from Jeaniene’s blog.
“After that, I had a great time chatting with everyone about Eternal, plus what’s next for Cat and Bones, and what other characters I want to give their own books to (cough, Vlad, cough)”
Yay!
Yep. I read it last night. Was doing a happy dance.
Yeah, I know what you mean about being able to understand what’s going on in both people’s minds. I am finding I like books in 3rd person more because you can get the perspective of more people.
I can say it is harder to write. I have to watch my POV shifts. People pop up when they’re not suppose to. lol
